Rewarding behavior (good or bad) will strengthen that behavior and increase the liklihood of it being repeated. For example, your dog barks at the mail carrier - mail carrier goes away. In your dog's mind he has just been rewarded for his barking. Therefore, the barking behavior is strengthened. For these dogs it's important that they are not able to beat the system. To redirect to the behavior you want, you need to practice. With an anti-bark collar, we recommend setting up a situation where you don't want your dog to bark .Put the no bark collar on, then practice. (Ex. have a friend ring the doorbell numerous times). If he continues to bark (and initially, he very well may), DO NOT YELL or SCOLD him. This only makes matters worse. Just like with kids, negative attention is often better than none at all. Instead, totally ignore him - no touching - no talking - no eye contact. However, as soon as he has stopped barking, REWARD his good behavior immediately with verbal praise, petting, treats or a toy - whatever your pet really likes. In other words, the key to success is to consistently reward the good behavior and ignore the bad. With a little practice, the product itself will be your "no".  This basic theory works with all the products. Just one note of caution. If you have a real "stinker" who goes through a whole can of spray in one practice run, make sure you replace it immediately so he/she doesn't figure out that there really is way to beat the system. Yes that can happen, but it's rare.
